Declaratory Act is adopted in London.
1766
Parliament approve a law that establishes small taxes on various imports. It asserts that the Colonies “have been, are, and of Right ought to be, subordinate unto, and dependent on the Imperial Crown” and that Parliament had “full Power and Authority to make Laws . . . to bind the Colonists and People of America . . . in all Cases whatsoever.” Passage of the law prompts Boston’s town meeting to declare: “We will form an immediate and universal combination to eat nothing, drink nothing, wear nothing from Great Britain. . . our strength consists in union.”
